5 Tips for Making an Outfit for your Next Photoshoot with Items you Already Have in your Closet
POV: you’ve got a photo session coming up and you have no idea what to wear. Rather than going and buying a new outfit, I’ve got 5 tips (and lots of inspiration) in helping you create a stellar ‘fit from items you already have in your closet. If you’re looking for ways to save some money but also look cute af, this is for you!
CURRENTLY EXPECTING?
Layers —
Coats, sweaters, vests, collared shirts, button ups, and everything in between! Layering is an easy way to elevate your outfit and add texture. Try a vest with your favourite long sleeve shirt or white button up dress shirt with an oversized sweater and jeans, a skirt, or dress pants, like this:
Neutrals + pops of color —
There are the colours I find look the best with my editing style and for creating timeless images -- don’t be afraid to add a pop of colour! Just be sure that it’s the right colour. I find warm and earthy colour palettes the most appealing to the eye and work really well with my editing style.
Textures and patterns —
TEXTURES: adding texture and accessories to your outfit will give your photos more life, interest, and contrast. Try a cable-knit sweater or a wide brimmed hat to add in a little extra to your outfit!
PATTERNS: solids, stripes, and other patterns such as plaids are all fine and dandy, but try to steer away from mixing prints to avoid making the images too 'busy' (i.e. if one of you is in a print, such as a flannel, the other should wear a solid color.)
SEE BELOW: notice how having only one pattern and the other in solid colours creates some interest in the photo but isn’t too overbearing.
Keep it simple —
Simple is GOOD when it comes to outfits for photoshoots. Opting for neutral colors and classic styles will ensure that the focus remains on YOU rather than on distracting patterns or loud colors. Simple and timeless outfits also have a way of transcending trends, allowing the photographs to remain relevant and visually appealing for years to come. By keeping clothing choices understated, the focus shifts to the emotions and connections captured in the images, resulting in timeless and elegant photographs.
Look for inspo —
Pinterest and my website/past galleries are a great source of inspiration! You can find my outfit inspo board here and follow me on Pinterest here.
