What to wear: 9 Wardrobe Tips for a Boho Maternity Photoshoot in Kamloops BC
Soon-to-be-mommas can get overwhelmed when choosing what to wear for their maternity session. That's why I've put together this helpful list to give you some inspiration when choosing your outfit, so you can worry less about what to wear, and more about how gorgeous you look while growing your beautiful bump!
1 — consider a maxi dress
Maxi or midi dresses are perfect for a maternity session. They're comfortable, flattering, and photograph really well. Extra points for a flowy fabric that will show off during those gorgeous movement shots! Floral maxi dresses are definitely my favourite.
2 — keep it simple
Avoid busy or loud prints and try to keep the colour neutral. Think timeless over trendy for images that won't go out of style. Florals are a pattern that you can always get away with and they look beautiful for maternity sessions! Just remember that if you’re in a pattern, keep your partner/other children in solid colors to avoid making the images look too busy.
3 — accentuate
Choose clothing that really accentuates your beautiful bump! We want to capture your growing belly in all its glory. Make sure its not hidden under super baggy clothing. Here's some of my personal favourite websites for dresses:
4 — bare the bump
Consider opting for a few nude or 'bump out' photos to really capture your growing bump. These images can be real works of art and can be done any time of year if you brave it — it’s worth it! Don’t be afraid to show off your body during this special, magical time.
5 — open front clothing
An open front lace kimono or sheer fabric cover up makes for some out-of-this-world dreamy photos. Alternatively, you could opt for a button down maxi dress to get those bare bump photos.
6 — two piece co-ords
A two piece co-ord has to be one of my favourites. A maxi skirt with a gypsy style cropped top looks sensational and is the height of boho chic!
7 — consider an in-home session

For maternity sessions during colder months:
The Kamloops landscape in the autumn and winter are truly stunning. Especially with the sagebrush!
Layer up. Try pairing a summer maxi dress with a short cut chunky knit and have some fun with it.
Avoid coats. Its always best to add layers underneath for extra warmth, rather than wear a large, bulky coat over the top. Consider investing in some thermals and thick socks to wear with boots. You can always wear a coat to the session and remove it for the photos.
Accessorize. Accessorizing with a warm shawl or scarf works well. You can also wear a winter Fedora hat for that boho chic vibe!

What should my partner and older children wear if they join me?
Choose your outfit first. Start with your outfit and build the rest of the families clothing around that.
Coordinate. If your partner or older children are joining you for your session, make sure you coordinate their outfits to go with yours. Again, keep in mind 'timeless over trendy'. Their outfits should compliment what you are wearing. For dads linen shirts and chinos work very well!
Avoid loud prints, graphics, and large logos as these can be distracting in the photos and take away from the real beauty - you! The simpler the better in my opinion.
Solids, stripes, and other patterns such as plaids are all fine and dandy, but try to steer away from mixing prints to avoid making the images too 'busy' (i.e. if one of you is in a print, such as a flannel, the other should wear a solid color.)
