A Colorful and Retro Fall Wedding at My Garden Wedding in Oyama, BC
Nestled in the hills of breathtaking British Columbia, M+A’s vibrant and retro-themed wedding was a fusion of colours and nostalgia. With the beautiful backdrop of Lake Kalamalka and the majestic mountains and rolling hills, M+A’s celebration transported guests to a whole other world. The air was filled with excitement as music played, and each detail provided a kaleidoscope of vibrant colors. Their florals were picked directly from the property at their venue (My Garden Wedding) and were my favourite florals of the entire 2023 season! Although it was a gloomy day, the bride and groom exchanged their vows under a moody sky with M’s brother as the officiant, and so much love and laughter filled the air. I remember M being so emotional as she walked down the aisle with her dad, afterward saying “it’s impossible not to get emotional when everyone you love is one place together.” When she got to the end of the aisle to meet A, they shared a hug that felt like it went on forever in the best way possible. These two are so in-love it hurts! The bright colours of orange, pink, purple, and yellow were so complimenting to all of their retro-inspired signage, and the 70’s style decor and bright florals made for amazing photos.
After the ceremony, all their guests went down to enjoy cocktail hour — one thing M+A really wanted in their wedding day was to be able to spend as much time as possible with their guests. So they decided on doing a first look, and because of that we opted to do pretty much all of their photos before the ceremony so they could join their guests for cocktail hour, where everyone enjoyed drinks, appetizers, good music, mingling, and lawn games. The food was amazing, the atmosphere was so incredibly fun, and M+A danced the night away with all their guests under the stars. Their reception photos are also some of my favourite from the season, because the dancefloor was packed with guests ready to have a good time!
As I was leaving for the evening, I couldn’t help but stop and take in the view of the reception tent, lit only by string lights and DJ lights. Although it was dark across the lake and mountains, laughter and joy mingled, creating a timeless memory in the minds of every single person who attended this extraordinary day of love and nostalgia. I feel especially lucky to have photographed this wedding in Oyama at My Garden Wedding, because this was their LAST WEDDING EVER before closing down for retirement. Definitely one of my favourite weddings I’ve ever photographed!
