5 Places to Find Spring Blooms + Flowers in Kamloops, BC
If you didn’t know, I’m from Saskatchewan. Summer was definitely my favourite season, but the summers in SK feels so short because winter is so long and spring is so slushy and dirty. Since moving to BC in November of 2021, my new favourite season is absolutely spring.
Ohhhhh my gosh, spring in Kamloops is more beautiful than we had ever thought. There are so many blooms around the city and the weather is amazing. Being new to Kamloops I was on the hunt because for one; as a lifestyle photographer I needed new locations for all my wonderful clients and future clients. And two; I knew I wanted to make this guide for people who are new to Kamloops next year and anyone looking to find some guaranteed spring blooms and flowers.
I found that blooms throughout the city were in their peaks at different times. Overall, the best time to see spring blooms in Kamloops is mid April - late May.
1 — Peterson Creek Park
One of my favourite places to take my dog walking is the Grasslands Loop in Peterson Creek Park. The trailhead can be found off Whiteshield Cres. I usually take him multiple times a week, but since moving downtown I don’t find myself up there as much, so one day after a few weeks of not going there — BAM! SO MANY BLOOMS! I’m so happy I took my camera that day.
2 — Downtown
If you don’t follow me on instagram, you missed that my husband and I moved into a new place downtown! (@kaelicphotography - join the fam!) Since moving to the city centre, we walk everywhere and take our dog on walks multiple times a week, so I was able to spot a bunch of beautiful flowers blooming throughout downtown. My favourite discovery was this big beautiful tree on the corner of St Paul St and 6th Avenue. It’s truly a must-see in its peak week! Another great spot is Columbia St near the hospital. Lilac bushes are abundant in downtown as well.
3 — Rivers Trail
Another one of my favourite trails is the Rivers Trail through Riverside Park. Keep in mind if you have a doggo, Riverside Park itself is not dog-friendly, however the trail continues behind the Sandman Center and leads to River Street Dog Park & Beach. This is one of Cooper’s favourite spots! We will be spending a lot of time there this summer :) some of the best blooms I found were near the Kamloops Yacht Club and Horseshoe club — the mix of pink and white trees was just stunning!
4 — Paul Lake
If you love these yellow wild flowers as much as I do, you’ve come to the right place! I loved doing sessions in the many fields of wild flowers you can find around Kamloops. The most volume I had seen was definitely at Paul Lake, but Peterson Creek Park had some good ones too! I mean, just look at this location! So stunning.
5 — Hidden Gems
Okay okay, technically this isn’t a location but I highly recommend just going on walk, hopping on your bike or in the car, heading out and adventuring to search for some hidden gems. Would you believe this photo below was beside a huge construction site, across the street from an apartment building? It’s surprising what you’ll find around the city!
Happy hunting,
